Are au pairs documented? Do they have a valid visa to work?

With all the changes in immigration and the deportation of many undocumented workers in the past weeks. Many people are concerned about the legality of their childcare workers. If you are hosting an au pair and your au pair is currently working through an agency - your au pair will have a valid J1 visa. The visa is valid for one year initially and if the au pair chooses to extend with the same family or a different family the visa gets extended for an additional year.
